A September Love Story at Camp Hale: Flute and String Trio

On a brisk and windy day in mid-September, our flute and string trio (flute, viola, cello) traveled to the remote Camp Hale in Red Cliff, Colorado. Autumn was arrayed in all its glory, and the fall foliage contrasted beautifully with the blue water of the lake.

Because of the strong winds, I arrived early and set up our sound system to amplify our trio, so that we would be heard easily. Soon, guests began arriving, walking across the wide expanse of lawn to the ceremony site. They were welcomed by our elegant music - every single song carefully chosen by the bride from our extensive repertoire list. The music included selections such as “Such Great Heights”, “Over the Rainbow”, “Chasing Cars,” “Young and Beautiful,” “Love on Top,” and “Clocks”.

Right before the ceremony began, we shifted into “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, which was a perfect selection for guests who traveled from both near and far to celebrate this couple in Colorado’s beautiful mountains.

When it was time for the processional to begin, Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love” set the tone for the family and wedding party, and created a romantic anticipation for the bride’s grand entrance. The bride had requested that we learn “Nobody Gets Me” by SZA, re-imagined in an instrumental style inspired by Bridgerton. Despite the strong winds, the moment felt romantic and sweet, almost like her processional was was suspended in time.

The recessional was accompanied by another new song request “We Found Love” by Rihanna. The energy was contagious as the guests applauded and began to make their way off the wedding island and back to the tent for cocktail hour.

The timing was perfect, as the sun went behind the clouds and the temperature plummeted. It was easy to feel the chill of the coming winter in the air! We packed up and headed out, with the catchy tunes still in our heads for the drive back to Denver.

A Lumunious Wedding Celebration at the Broadmoor: String Quartet

September in Colorado is magical, leaving the whimsies of spring and the heat of summer behind. This couple had their wedding celebration on one of those perfect early autumn evenings at the Broadmoor. The air was crisp and calm, and golden sunshine poured through leaves that were just starting to show a hint of color. Our string quartet tied the ceremony and cocktail together with personalized contemporary music, adding energy and romance throughout the event.

The ceremony took place on the lush West Tower Lawn, and the elegant acoustic music of our quartet complimented the setting as guests arrived. The bride wanted the music to be soft and fluid, and she chose favorites like “La Vie En Rose”, a “Thousand Years”, and “Marry Me”. To fill out the set list, I blended in additional elegant music such as “I Get to Love You”, “Salut de Amour”, and “Anne’s Theme”. The atmosphere was romantic and unhurried, and our music welcomed guests as soon as they crossed the bridge to the ceremony site.

The bride sent me a specific piano version of “Today Was a Fairytale” by Taylor Swift, and I worked with her to create a slower and softer version to fit her vision. This became the song for the wedding party, with the bride following, accompanied by “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.

The ceremony ended on a celebratory note, as we played “Ordinary” by Alex Warren. This carried the guests back across the bridge to the cocktail portion of the event.

The cocktail hour took place by the lake, and I had previously set up my premium sound system, so that it was ready to weave our music through the chatter of the guests. We played a selection of upbeat contemporary music, including “Perfect”, “Golden Hour”, “XO”, and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”.

In addition to our music and cocktails, guests enjoyed live engraving by Jupiter Stone Creative. There was so much to do and enjoy.

A Fairy Garden Party with a Country Twist: Flute and Violin Duo

Our flute and violin duo was the perfect fit for this fairy garden party wedding in early September. Western wear and boots were the theme of the day, and they were also a practical choice for the setting of a working farm.

From the Bride

“We Love Christen!!
Christen was such a pleasure to work with, her communication is prompt and they did such a wonderful job playing our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. There was absolutely zero stress when it came to the music at our wedding thanks to these lovely ladies! We had her on the flute and Brightin on the violin and they were amazing. Christen worked with us to curate such a magical vibe for our special day and she has such a large song list to choose from! Their music style matched ours very well so it was easy to build a strong list of songs to keep the music flowing the whole time. They played beautifully and even though I did not have the pleasure of meeting them in person (it was a crazy day!) I have no regrets and would certainly hire them again."

The ceremony was held in a secluded clearing, tucked away in a cottonwood and olive grove at the back of the farm. As we set up and prepared to play, the groom and a few other family members were driving the tractor up and down the path, whooping and getting thoroughly covered in dust while having the best time.

Soon, guests began to arrive, shuttled down the path from the house, and they wore florals, summery colors, and cowboy boots. As they approached, they could hear our prelude music drifting through the trees. The bride chose a blend of classical favorites, film music, and romantic pop melodies including Clair de Lune, Concerning Hobbits, Colors of the Wind, and Michelle. The sweet and light music perfectly fit the setting and announced that a wedding would indeed be happening in this quiet glade.

The processional began with Can’t Help Falling in Love for the family, and then the joyful strains of Here Comes the Sun for the bride’s entrance. We played a delicate version of Moon River for the ring warming ceremony, and it was a quiet and reflective moment.

At the end of the ceremony, we increased the energy with the classic Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”. After we finished, we began the trek back to the house so that we would be set up and playing as soon as the first guests arrived at the reception site. As we set up back there, the couple and guests remained behind to perform a traditional log cutting ceremony. This was the real deal, featuring a real log and saw and a bit of elbow grease.

Once we arrived, we continued playing upbeat, feel-good music under the reception tent. The bride loved the Beatles, so we played a lot of those, mixed with a little Americana, and timeless classics woven in throughout. Songs such as Eleanor Rigby, Blue Sky, and I Want to Hold Your Hand got everyone’s booted toes tapping.

A Charming Wedding Celebration at the Tapestry House in Laporte, Colorado: Violin and Cello

Working with Hazel and Boone on their wedding music was definitely one of the highlights of my year! Hazel had such an inspiring and romantic vision for her wedding day, and we were excited to help bring her dream to life with our music!

The wedding took place at the charming Tapestry House in Laporte, Colorado. The house is a beautifully restored Victorian situated on a lush, green property. Large, old shade trees dot the lawn, and gardens are in abundance. The garden party dress code fit the setting perfectly, and added to the floral and summery effect of the setting.

Our violin and cello duo set the mood as guests arrived with light favorites such as Concerning Hobbits, Over the Rainbow, What a Wonderful World, La Vie En Rose, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Once guests were seated, the ceremony was delayed for 20 minutes, and we continued to entertain our appreciative audience in the same style. We always plan extra music as a buffer, and the guests quietly listened to us and clapped, like it was a mini-concert!

From the professional and clear communication, to the flexibility with last minute changes, to the performance itself, they went above and beyond my expectations... my guests were in awe at the magic this small touch brought our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. Their song list is quite extensive already, but Christen happily learned two new songs (at a very small extra fee) to personalize our special moment. After the event she even surprised us with a live (very clear) recording of my walking down song which brought me to tears. Highly recommend hiring these talented musicians for your next big event or your wedding!!”

Then, at the wedding planner’s cue, we launched into Storybook Love from The Princess Bride, as the family was informally seated. This was followed by the groom, who started the formal processional, leading his groomsmen, as we accompanied them with “The Ring Goes South” from The Lord of the Rings. The groom chose the most epic part, which we looped as needed, to symbolize the brotherhood as they embarked on a journey to deliver the very important ring. I arranged the song especially for our violin and cello duo for this moment, and it didn’t fail to deliver!

Then came the bridesmaids to the nostalgic Moon River, shifting the mood to a gentle and romantic feel. This prepared everyone for the entrance of the bride, which was accompanied by the rich and layered harmonies of Flightless Bird by Iron & Wine.

The loving and joyful ceremony concluded with “Married Life” from Up, and as soon as guests left for group photos, we packed up and moved over to the social hour. We played a lively set list under the tree shade, and it included songs by The Beatles and other classics like Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, My Funny Valentine, and Love Me Tender. The bride also selected a few modern favorites like Perfect, Birds of a Feather, and Young and Beautiful. Our music perfectly fit the charming setting, and set the mood for the reception to follow.

This July wedding at the Manor House in Littleton was the perfect storybook escape, tucked in the foothills of the Colorado mountains. Every good story needs to have a challenge to resolve, and as you will find out, Colorado delivered just that. But don’t worry - there’s a happy ending!

Our violin and cello duo arrived early and got set up under the musician tent, but we noticed that the sky was beginning to get very dark to the west. This is quite common and it often means nothing, but we kept an eye on the radar, just in case. We were ready to begin playing we heard it - A soft boom of thunder.

The radar confirmed that things could get spicy pretty quickly, and the sun went behind the gathering clouds, hinting at what was to come. We immediately shifted into our storm plan, and quickly and calmly moved everything indoors to the reception space, setting up to play there with our speaker system facing the ceremony area. And then the sky opened up.

It didn’t just rain, but it poured, and exactly at the ceremony start time, it began to hail, just to keep things interesting. We were poised to play as soon as the guests were ushered out. As the 10-minute hail storm turned into a light sprinkle, the venue quickly wiped down the seats and ushered the guests out to the ceremony site.

The DJ used the tent to protect his equipment and we stayed just inside the venue doors and allowed our music to float out as guests cautiously made their way to their seats, while the thunder continued to rumble.

The bride chose gorgeous moody and romantic music for her ceremony. The wedding party walked in to “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, and then the bride made her entrance to “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey, which really fit the dramatic sky and rain-washed air.

The couple signed their marriage license accompanied by “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and then walked back up the aisle as newlyweds to “Love Me Like You Do”. The bride asked for a cinematic effect on this one, and we softly looped the introduction during the final words of the ceremony and then burst into the full melody just as they were introduced.

After the ceremony, everyone happily retreated indoors for the cocktail hour, and we moved to the cocktail space where we played a varied music set. Songs included “Here Comes the Sun”, “Married Life” from Up, “She’s a Rainbow,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” and even “Don’t Stop Believin’.”, carrying guests on a musical journey through many musical styles and eras.

In the end, we were so happy that we had made a backup plan for every possible scenario, and that we were able to stay flexible and keep good humor throughout the day. And, most importantly, this kind couple was able to have their romantic outdoor wedding before they partied the night away!

A Secluded Mountain Wedding Ceremony at the Frisco Overlook: Violin and Cello Duo

Tucked into the trees above the Dillon Reservoir, Frisco Overlook has a sense of serenity and privacy that belies its close proximity to the town of Frisco. The ceremony site is tucked away in groves of Aspen and pine trees and quiet meadows, and the mountains rise serenely in the background. Our violin and cello duo was the perfect choice for this intimate mountain celebration.

When I first arrived, there was lovely early September thunderstorm, and I waited in my car with the window cracked open to enjoy the cool and fresh air that a storm brings. As soon as the storm passed, I moved to the ceremony site and helped the couple’s family members set up our musician tent, just in case it decided to rain again.

We were all set up and playing a mix of modern love songs and familiar favorites as guests began to arrive. The sound of our violin and cello carried through the gently dripping trees and invited everyone down the short mountain path. For the prelude, the bride selected music like Somewhere Only We Know, Turning Page, Enchanted, At Last, and Kiss Me, heartwarming selections that fit the setting perfectly.

The ceremony began with the romantic Perfect by Ed Sheeran, which accompanied the groom and family. Then, guests were asked to stand as we segued to Daylight by Taylor Swift for the bride, and time suspended as everyone took in the moment.

When the officiant announced, “You may now kiss the bride,” our duo launched straight into Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen. Everyone cheered and they instantly knew the music, which added so much personality and charm as the couple recessed back down the aisle. Rain had begun during the second half of the ceremony, but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, and we were grateful for the tent so that our music could continue without a pause.

As guests lingered for photos, we continued the music with Signed, Sealed, Delivered and Home. The couple came up to us and told us how much they loved our music, and we had an opportunity to offer our heartfelt congratulations and finally see them in person. They were a joy to work with, and it was so special to play music for their wedding day.

A Summer Evening Wedding in the Highlands Ranch Mansion Gardens: String Trio

This summer evening wedding at the Highlands Ranch Mansion belonged in a storybook. The lush gardens and golden afternoon light backed by the dramatic mansion was the perfect setting for this couple’s vows. The Highlands Ranch Mansion features historic architecture, sweeping lawns, and old, majestic trees. It’s a quiet retreat from modern life, with gracious, old-world elegance and vibrant gardens.

It was an unusually rainy summer, with clouds coming through every afternoon, and on this day, Colorado decided to keep us on our toes. We kept our instrument cases ready, and even had to do a quick pack-up as a brief rain shower moved through. Then, we continued to play prelude music as the guests mingled in the garden at the ceremony site. Despite the weather, we played every song selected by the client - a little classical, a little Sinatra, a little Beatles, and even some Counting Crows and Beauty and the Beast.

Shortly before the ceremony began, we heard a distant boom of thunder and the wind became extremely gusty. We crossed our fingers for the weather to hold off as the processional began with “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey. When it was time for the bride’s entrance, we segued into the favorite Canon in D, as she was escorted by her father. I was in love with the bride’s dress - very simple with voluminous folds of satin, always falling around her perfectly.

The ceremony was accompanied by high winds, but the rain held off. The officiant’s shared history with the couple added an extra layer of meaning and detail to the Christian ceremony. The kiss was our cue to launch into “At Last” by Etta James for the recessional, and it was such a romantic feel as the couple recessed back down the aisle.

Afterwards, we continued with postlude music, having fun with the jazzy and upbeat selections that the couple made. Guests enjoyed the sounds of “All You Need Is Love,” “It Had to Be You,” and “It’s De-Lovely” as they had a joyful send-off. Just as we were wrapping up, the thunder boomed and the rain started, and everyone retreated indoors, as a rainbow arced across the sky.

“I want to get married in a cloud” is not the first thing a bride thinks to say, but this couple got to experience the dreamy, soft light of having their wedding in the clouds! Though it obscured the views, the fog created a magical effect that narrowed the world to soft, muted shades, with no sign of the usual overly bright July sunshine. Such thick fog is very unusual for Colorado especially during the hot days of July, but the fog lingered until late in the day on the mountainside.

“We had the pleasure of working with Christen for our wedding in Boulder, and she was simply fantastic. From start to finish, she made the process of arranging our strings duo for the ceremony and cocktail hour effortless. Christen's communication and organization were top-notch, and her guidance on the processional and recessional order was invaluable. Even with last-minute adjustments requested by our officiant in the final week, Christen was incredibly adaptable and accommodating. Her and Brightin's performance was outstanding, and we wholeheartedly recommend Christen for any event needing live music!”

The ceremony took place at the Flagstaff House, overlooking the town of Boulder, Colorado. Our violin and cello duo was the perfect fit for this small wedding in the intimate setting. We played on the porch, where our sound system easily carried our music to the ceremony site down below. As guests began to arrive we greeted them with elegant songs selected by the bride, including Blackbird, Daylight, Young and Beautiful, and Make You Feel My Love. The bride requested that Enchanted by Taylor Swift be the very last song before the entrance of the wedding party. We looped it as needed as we watched the wedding party assembling in front of us, getting ready to walk.

The processional began with What a Wonderful World, which was a perfect fit for the foggy morning. After the family walked, we switched to Here Comes the Sun, accompanying the bridesmaids, who each wore a different summery color. Because the space was small, the wedding party took their seats, preparing for the couple to be the focus of the day. Then, the bride entered to Can’t Help Falling in Love, making her slow walk down the curving staircase.

The ceremony was joyful and personal, and though we didn’t get to see it from our corner of the porch, we could hear every word. After the vows, the ceremony closed with Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours), and guests moved up to the porch area for cocktails.

For cocktail hour, I turned our speaker inward and we continued to play a wide range of music selected by the bride. Guests were entertained by the Beatles, Taylor Swift, Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Elton John, and Guns N’ Roses. The music stayed in the background but kept the atmosphere lively as guests mingled and enjoyed the day. As the cocktail hour drew to a close, we turned the music over to Casey Kleeman, who we just had the pleasure of meeting. She’s a guitarist who also sings beautifully, and she carried the music forward through lunch.

A Cinematic Wedding on the Vail Wedding Island - Violin and Cello Duo

The blustery mountain winds and soft light on this late June day created a dramatic setting for this cinema-inspired wedding. The ceremony took place on the Vail Wedding Island at the Vail Golf Club, amidst the pine-scented air. There was still some snow on the Gore Range, making the perfect backdrop for this couple’s vows.

“We got married last month and couldn't be more happy about working with Christen! From the moment we inquired to the actual wedding day, she was extremely professional, attentive and responded to our questions so quickly. We asked for a new arrangement for our ceremony song and she was extremely enthusiastic about working on it and even gave us a live recording of it after our day. If you're looking for live music on your wedding day you HAVE to go with Christen.”

As guests gathered, our violin and cello duo set the tone with a mix of film scores and modern favorites. Music from How to Train Your Dragon, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars caught guest’s attention, and we mixed these with familiar favorites like “Kiss Me,” “Birds of a Feather,” and “Wildest Dreams.” When we played “Blackbird”, a bird in the tree above us warbled right on cue, as if to perfectly re-create the Beatles version.

“Flute & Strings were absolutely incredible at our couple's wedding. They set up on the island at Vail Golf Course and played the most stunning music for the ceremony. I know the couple, the guests, and all the vendors were impressed. I'll definitely be recommending them to future couples!”

When it was time for the ceremony to begin, the officiant made his way down the aisle, and that was our cue to wrap up the prelude music. After the “no phones” announcement, we segued into “Speechless” by Dan + Shay, as parents and the wedding party made their way down the aisle.

The bride’s entrance was accompanied by “Marry Me” from Pirates of the Caribbean, and I loved arranging this for our duo, specifically for her walk down the aisle. The bride also plays violin, and after the wedding, I sent her a copy of the arrangement so she could keep the music with her and enjoy it whenever she wanted to.

As the ceremony closed with a kiss, we played the lively “All You Need Is Love”. We continued the energy as the couple walked back down the aisle, and then played more softly as the officiant announced shuttle information. After the announcement, we crescendoed again, and continued the energy with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” as the last of the guests were shuttled back to the clubhouse.

It was a beautiful weekday in June, a softly sunlit Colorado day that was made for a wedding. The wedding took place at the Lyons Farmette, a working mini-farm known for its vibrant gardens and cute farm animals. Guests were welcomed by clucking chickens, friendly goats, fuzzy alpacas, and the rustling leaves of the huge cottonwood trees. As guests approached the ceremony site, they were invited by our violin and cello music floating on the breeze, setting the tone for the entire day.

The couple handpicked each song for their prelude, ceremony, and postlude, giving their ceremony a curated feel personalized to them. We played their chosen mix of elegant and sentimental pieces, including Time to Say Goodbye, La Vie en Rose, and Home. As guests found their seats under the shade of the cottonwood trees, our music created a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

For the seating of the family, the couple chose Concerning Hobbits from The Lord of the Ring, starting the ceremony off with at touch of whimsy and adventure. The wedding party processional was wonderfully unique. First came Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett, which I thoughtfully arranged for our duo. Then, the wedding couple selected Kiss Me from She’s All That, another new arrangement I created specifically for them. Both pieces translated beautifully for violin and cello, bringing a fresh, upbeat charm to the processionals.

The ceremony was sweet and joyful, and the shady lawns nestled under the cottonwood trees at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains perfectly fit the couple.

When it was time for the recessional, we played the energetic Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder, which was accompanied by the guests as they cheered the newlyweds back up the aisle.

As friends and family made their way to the cocktail-hour space, we finished with the whimsical and sweet Married Life from the movie Up. It was a gentle and heartfelt way to close the ceremony portion of the day and usher everyone toward the festivities ahead.

This June wedding at the Vail Golf Club was truly one of the highlights of my wedding season. The family’s Midwestern warmth made me feel right at home, especially since much of my own family is from Wisconsin! Jackie, the bride’s mother, poured her whole heart into making the day unforgettable for her daughter. With a playful laugh, she told me they were “pretending to be rich for a day,” and they certainly pulled it off with effortless style and lots of love.

The mid-June weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and the constant spring rain and snow made the golf club lawn and trees look almost impossibly lush. The mountains still wore little crowns of leftover snow under blue skies and puffball clouds.

The ceremony took place on the open lawn next to the clubhouse, with the majestic Gore Range as a backdrop. I performed on cello, along with my violinist, and we played under the porch overhang for shade and the perfect acoustics. Our sound system carried our music beautifully to both the ceremony lawn, and also the cocktail hour, which later took place on the porch.

As guests began to arrive, we had the air humming softly with elegant strains of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Purcell, and other classical favorites, as requested by the couple. Their prelude list was a cohesive flow of classical music with touches of sacred music woven throughout.

The ceremony began with Bach’s Air on the G String as the families, officiant, groom, and wedding party made their way down the aisle. The bride walked slowly to the classic strains for Pachelbel’s Canon in D, and was escorted by her dad.

The faith-filled ceremony was officiated by the groom’s father, Greg, and he was so professional, like he’d been officiating weddings his whole life. We accompanied communion for the couple with The Blessing by Kari Jobe. When we finished playing, the officiant’s words gave me goosebumps in a good way, “How profound is it that the song they were just playing was from the Aaronic blessing, the blessing that I just spoke over you guys. We didn’t coordinate that - that was a God thing.”

As the newly pronounced couple took their first steps together down the aisle, we played What a Wonderful World, and then we segued into more classical music as the cocktail hour began. We played an extra long cocktail hour that included classical favorites such as highlights from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, the Flower Duet, Meditation from Thaïs, and selections from Strauss, Schubert, Handel, Bach and more.

One of the loveliest parts of this day was the atmosphere the families created. Jackie, the mother of the bride, welcomed us with such sincerity and gratitude, and the couple was just as gracious. Their guests also created an environment of ease, and they were so complimentary of our music throughout the day.

As the sun gilded the mountaintops with gold, we concluded our final hour of music as guests moved indoors for the dinner and reception portion of the event.

A Heartfelt Mountain Wedding at Mountain View Ranch in Pine, Colorado: String Quartet

This late May wedding brought quite a dash of adventure with unexpected weather drama in the forested mountain setting. The ceremony took place at Mountain View Ranch by Wedgewood Weddings, at the cozy and rustic “Willows” site. The tall trees surrounded the space, giving it a secluded and romantic feel. The day brought dark clouds, gusty wind, and even a few snowflakes, falling gently in the grey light that occasionally broke through the clouds.

From the Bride:

“Christen was super communicative throughout the whole process and responsive. The music turned out amazing and her group was super adaptable to last minute and unpredictable changes. I’m very grateful!”

Before the ceremony, the guests gathered by the fire near the charming reception barn to stay warm. They remained by the fire as long as possible, while we kept our hands as warm as we could at the ceremony site, ready for their arrival. Shortly before the start of the ceremony, everyone arrived, and our string quartet began a shortened prelude of classical favorites, including Arioso by Bach, the Flower Duet by Delibes, and selections from Schubert and Handel. Our music filled the space with a peaceful, elegant atmosphere despite the chilly wind.

When it was time for the wedding party to enter, we switched to a timeless romantic feel with “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Then came the bride’s entrance to “If You Love Me for Me” from Barbie. We performed a special arrangement of the song that I wrote for our quartet to play for this memorable moment.

As we were packing up, the wind finally had the last say when a strong gust enthusiastically relocated our canopy shelter, and sent it tumbling towards the woods. A pole struck me hard on the head! Fortunately I’m okay, though it was quite a scare, and it has inspired me to become well-versed in canopy safety. We were grateful that it happened after the music concluded, with guests safely tucked back inside the barn, and our instruments already packed away.

Despite the excitement of the day, Tess and Cody were happily married, and Tess got to walk down the aisle to her dream song!

Stephanie and Thomas’s Bridgerton inspired wedding at The Arrabelle at Vail Square was everything one could hope for in a September celebration in the Colorado mountains. Everyone enjoyed clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and lush views of Vail’s ski slopes.

From the Bride:

“Christen was WONDERFUL to work with!!! For our wedding at the Arrabelle in Vail, CO we wanted a string duet - violin and cello. Christen is a preferred vendor for Vail resorts and once we reached out to her to inquire, I can see why. Her music is lovely, she was a dream to work with and guided us through the entire process. We chose to play classical before the ceremony and contemporary for the cocktail hour. Her playlist is massive!! Unfortunately there was competing music coming from a bar next door but when Christen was playing, we never heard the other music. Christen's music was the perfect touch to the scenic backdrop of Vail. I wouldn't think twice about using her again.”

Our violin and cello duo performed on the Great Room Terrace, a calming outdoor space overlooking downtown Vail and the mountains. Guests arrived to the sound of our elegant classical music, including selections from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Handel’s Water Music, setting the mood for a romantic ceremony. A few minutes before the ceremony began, we played Schubert’s Ave Maria, as requested by the bride, to lead guests to their seats and to prepare for the processionals.

A Fun Piece of Trivia

My violinist for this wedding recently appeared on the newest season of *Love Is Blind*! It was such a delight to spot a familiar face on screen, and it brought back lovely memories of the delightful time we had playing together for this day as well.

The wedding party entered to Bach’s Sheep May Safely Graze, followed by Stephanie’s walk down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D. The ceremony was performed beautifully by Stephanie’s brother, and he made it so heartfelt and personal. When the newlyweds were announced, we launched into Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, a perfect selection for the mountain setting and the celebration to follow.

We were originally going to play acoustically in the intimate setting, but after the ceremony concluded, a nearby restaurant began playing loud jazz music. I always come prepared, and I quickly set up my sound system. Our music carried clearly across the terrace, ensuring our live performance was the one featured for this couple.

As the light softened over the mountains, we shifted to contemporary favorites arranged for strings—songs like Wildest Dreams, A Sky Full of Stars, and Perfect. The mix of classical and modern styles created a Bridgerton inspired feel that guests loved, and several even picked up on the theme without knowing about it at all!

Colorado is blossoming in early May, and Sarah and David ended up with the most sweet spring day for their Red Rocks Trading Post wedding ceremony. Known for its dramatic sandstone formations and sweeping views of the Front Range, Red Rocks is one of Colorado’s most iconic venues. The Trading Post, a historic stone building nestled among the cliffs, provided the perfect blend of rustic charm and natural beauty for this spring wedding.

The ceremony took place outdoors on the Trading Post lawn. Guests had a breathtaking view of the red sandstone cliffs and surrounding foothills as they were serenaded by our accompanying flute and cello music. Sarah and David combined their American and Chinese backgrounds with blended cultural elements, and a ceremony that was tailored to honor both of their perspectives.

Sarah and David curated a list of prelude music that spoke to their personalities and tastes. We performed everything from Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve and Lana Del Rey’s Young and Beautiful to classics like Can’t Help Falling in Love and Over the Rainbow. The selections flowed seamlessly between romantic pop ballads, movie themes, and timeless standards—creating an atmosphere that was personalized to their elegant and modern vibe.

When the ceremony began, the wedding party entered to the joyful and familiar strains of Canon in D by Pachelbel. Family members and the groom followed with All You Need to Know by Slander, a request that highlighted the couple’s love for electronic music.

The bridesmaids, ringbearer, junior bridesmaid, and flower girl processed to Innerbloom by Rufus Du Sol, a soaring and emotional track that translated beautifully to flute and cello. Finally, Sarah made her entrance with her father to the most gentle part of If I Lose Myself (Alesso Remix), for an emotional entrance.

During the unity ceremony, we played Blackbird by The Beatles, a sweet selection that perfectly represented the couple’s new blended family.

As a reprise, the recessional began with the most lively part of If I Lose Myself, tying the entire ceremony together and bringing the mood into joyful celebration. This was immediately followed by Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, to continue the lively feel of the day, as guests headed towards the shuttles, getting them in the mood for a fun wedding reception.

When Maddie and Nate reached out to me about music for their September wedding at the Westin Riverfront in Avon, they knew they wanted music that felt personal, modern, and full of joy. From our first emails, it was clear that live music would play an important role in making their wedding day vision come true.

In the months leading up to the wedding, we refined the music for every part of the ceremony through the cocktail hour. Maddie knew exactly how she wanted her entrance to feel, so we coordinated the timing down to the second. We also selected a set of upbeat, contemporary favorites for the cocktail hour so the celebration could flow naturally from ceremony to mingling.

I recommended musician amplification for both the ceremony lawn and the patio reception, so guests could enjoy the music comfortably without overpowering conversation. Our ensemble for the day was flute, viola, and cello—a great fit for contemporary songs with a warm, full sound.

The day of the wedding was surprisingly warm for late September, and the ceremony site was flooded with warm, golden sunshine. The single patio umbrella didn’t quite shade our group, and I was so glad that I brought my floppy hat so that I could be the one sitting in the sun and still see my sheet music! Unlike stringed instruments, my flute won’t be damaged by sunshine.

Maddie’s entrance was set to “Yellow” by Coldplay, carefully timed so the most expressive part of the song aligned with her walk. For the recessional, they chose “Long Live” by Taylor Swift—joyful and celebratory as they walked out together.

Cooler air flowed down the mountains just as we were finishing up the cocktail hour music, and guests moved inside to the reception. We were then treated to one of most delicious meals from the Westin, a great way to end the evening and prepare for our drive back to Denver.

A Secluded Wedding Celebration at Castle Peak Ranch in Edwards, Colorado: String Quartet

On a gorgeous late June day, our string quartet headed out to a remote mountain location to play for a stunning wedding ceremony, where luxury was brought the Colorado mountain wilderness. The wedding was held at Castle Peak Ranch, which is owned by the groom’s family, and everything that was needed was brought in to make the couple’s special day truly magical and luxurious. Wendy Hampton, of Soiree Telluride, truly pulled off a logistical feat of epic proportions with this one!

The party started 3 days before the ceremony with a rehearsal dinner, then a welcome party on the following day. Finally, the big day arrived! Our string quartet drove on dirt roads for quite a long way, passing aspen groves, bucolic pastures, and sweeping mountain views. Our destination was the family’s stunning ranch home, which would be the site of the ceremony. After the ceremony, guests would be shuttled to the cocktail hour and reception under Tipi tents in the pastures, surrounded by nature and luxury.

The couple wanted to completely customize their day, so they hand selected all of their music for the prelude and ceremony. They also made 8 new song requests, which we learned specifically for their wedding day.

When the almost 300 guests began to arrive, we were ready to play the couple’s choice of prelude music as everyone mingled and enjoyed refreshments. After a fun prelude of contemporary music, we played the processional music as the wedding party and bride processed down the aisle.

Then, towards the middle of the ceremony, an unexpected rain shower broke loose, and out came the clear umbrellas that were provided for each of the guests. The ceremony continued as a beautiful double rainbow stretched across the sky, right behind the couple!

On a gorgeous day in early October, our violin and cello duo played for an elegant outdoor wedding ceremony and cocktail hour at the Grant Humphreys Mansion in Denver, Colorado. Since this bride lives locally in Colorado, I had the pleasure of meeting her in person for our wedding music planning session. I helped her coordinate all of our music, and also the ceremony details, many of which can be easy to overlook if you don’t do weddings all the time. Our planning plus the wonderful coordination from the bride’s friend paid off, and the wedding day went off flawlessly.

Prior to the ceremony, my violinist and I played elegant classical music to greet the guests as they arrived. As we played, the bride told me later that she peeked from the upper window to enjoy our music as she was getting ready. Our classical music transitioned into “La Vie En Rose” by Louis Armstrong for the family, and then into “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri for the bride.

The ceremony was beautiful, and capped off by a lively rendition of “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay, which we played just as the couple had their first kiss as husband and wife.

Following the recessional, we moved to the patio and played a mix of classical and current contemporary love songs. At the bride’s request, we kept the music smooth and romantic, and didn’t play any songs that had fast, poppy pace.

On a glorious day in late September, our string quartet enjoyed playing elegant wedding ceremony and cocktail hour music at Della Terra Mountain Chateau in Estes Park, Colorado. The vibrant fall colors created a magical setting for the couple, who timed their wedding day perfectly to enjoy peak autumn foliage.

The ceremony was held outside in the wedding area, with a picturesque mountain backdrop, complete with the friendly wild turkeys who often roam the mountainside. We arrived well ahead of schedule to set up and ensure every detail was in place for our performance. We also coordinated with the Della Terra sound technician to connect our instrument microphones into their custom sound system. This meant that guests could hear our music all the way down the walkway and at the ceremony site.

As guests began to arrive, we played elegant classical pieces that perfectly complemented the formal feel that the couple wanted for their ceremony. The ceremony was so sweet, and the couple kept looking over at their adorable young son, who seemed to know just the right moments to stay quiet and to get excited with his uninhibited enthusiasm.

The couple also performed a tree planting for their unity ceremony, accompanied by our string quartet playing Schubert’s Ave Maria. As the ceremony concluded, we played At Last by Etta James as the newlyweds walked back down the aisle amidst enthusiastic cheers from the guests.

Following the ceremony, we transitioned to the patio for cocktail hour, where we played upbeat modern music selected by the bride. She was excited about some of our new additions to the repertoire. They were songs that she was familiar with but that would be a first for the groom. The guests also recognized the fun contemporary music that the bride selected, and as we completed our portion of the event, we left them tapping their toes,

A Joyful Jewish Wedding Celebration at the Denver Botanic Gardens: Flute and Cello Duo

Our flute and cello music set a light and joyful tone for this delightful Jewish wedding celebration at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The mid-September day was warm and sunny with an occasional cool breeze, the perfect weather for an outdoor wedding ceremony! The wedding took place inside the solarium at the Woodland Mosaic Garden, and our music sounded magical as it was naturally amplified by the glass. The bride arranged to have us play for both her ceremony and cocktail hour, and guests heard the sound of our music throughout the entire garden area.

We played a mix of classical music, including a good amount of Bach, for the prelude as guests began to arrive. It was a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, and the Rabbi stood under the chuppah to signal the start of the processional. The chuppah is a canopy that a Jewish couple stands under during their wedding ceremony, and it symbolizes the home that the couple will build together.

The ceremony was a delight because Rabbi Emily Hyatt explained the traditions as they came up during the ceremony, and her joy and enthusiasm made the service so fun to witness. Emily gave the guests a brief tutorial on how to shout “Mazel tov!” after the glass was broken, and they even got to practice a few times. The practice paid off, because they enthusiastically shouted “Mazel tov!” after the groom broke the glass, and the couple walked down the aisle together, accompanied by our duo playing “At Last” by Etta James.

After the fun recessional, we switched to playing a mix of classical and nostalgic contemporary music for the cocktail hour. At the couple’s request, we included a lot of Beatles, Louis Armstrong, and Elvis. When we finished playing, the guests gathered inside the solarium for dinner and the next part of the celebration.

A Charming Autumn Wedding Celebration in the Colorado Mountains: String Quartet

The autumn foliage was at its peak for this couple’s beautiful wedding day in the Colorado mountains. The overcast sky intensified the vibrant colors of the trees, creating a luxurious backdrop for their wedding ceremony.

With a storm moving in, the couple made the thoughtful decision to relocate their ceremony from the wedding island to a spot closer to the clubhouse. This change allowed easy access to the ceremony site, allowing everyone to enjoy the day without worrying about being caught in severe weather.

Prior to the ceremony, our string quartet enjoyed setting the mood with a personalized music setlist, thoughtfully chosen by the couple. Their selections showcased an eclectic blend of romantic ballads, modern pop favorites, and inspirational melodies, creating a custom musical touch for their special day. We began playing as guests arrived and mingled in the outdoor space, which was alive with vibrant autumn colors.

For the processional, the couple chose traditional music, starting with the very romantic “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis for the family. Then, we performed the entirety of Pachelbel’s Canon in D, a very rare occurrence due to the length of the piece. The sweet family dog, Luna, joined the processional, adding a cute touch and eliciting a collective “awww” from the guests.

As the ceremony unfolded, the gusty wind picked up, and big raindrops began to fall. To protect our instruments from the blowing rain, we quickly moved further under the shelter, and the officiant sped up the ceremony. The couple remained focused and calm and the rain lightened just in time for a more serene conclusion to their vows.

After the ceremony, we played for an additional ten minutes, creating a fun and upbeat vibe as guests transitioned to the cocktail hour. Once our portion was complete, we coordinated with the DJ, who seamlessly took over the entertainment for the reception. Fortunately, the heavier rain arrived only after everyone was safely inside!
