This February, I had the pleasure of playing solo flute at the Woodland Mosaic Garden, in Denver, Colorado. In the midst of an unusually cold winter, this day was sunny and mild, and the sounds of my flute perfectly complimented the snow-covered winter garden setting.

As guests began to arrive, I started playing a selection of country and contemporary music with a laid-back and romantic vibe. The acoustics inside the solarium are wonderful, and my flute music filled the indoor and outdoor spaces with fun melodies that set the mood for the entire morning.

The bride had requested that I play "Come What May" from the movie Moulin Rouge. This was a gorgeous melody that I hadn’t heard before, and a dramatic addition to the wedding ceremony. Since not many people were there when I first played it, I played it once more after the ceremony, as the couple took photos inside the solarium.

After the ceremony ended, I continued to play upbeat music, and the guests were delighted to hear more familiar tunes.

I was grateful for the opportunity to bring joy and warmth to this special day, and to meet some wonderful people along the way!

“It was Magical”

“Christen played the flute during our ceremony at the Botanic gardens and it was magical. She was early, communicated well, and tailored the music to the style that we like. Overall great experience!” Cassi F., bride

A Haunted Victorian Garden Party Wedding in Denver’s Woodland Mosaic Garden Solarium

String Trio Wedding Ceremony and Reception Music at the Denver Botanic Gardens, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens, Photographer: Kate Merrill Photo

On a sunny Halloween Day, I had the pleasure of performing with my string trio at a captivating Haunted Victorian Garden themed wedding ceremony in the Woodland Mosaic Garden Solarium. This gorgeous garden location, nestled right in the middle of the city of Denver, is my all-time favorite wedding spot in the Colorado. Our musical performance was reminiscent of a Victorian house orchestra, which would have been very popular at that time, and we helped to create a romantic atmosphere, perfect for a Halloween wedding and the couple's unique vision.

From the Bride:

“It was a dream to walk down the aisle to the instrumentals of this live string trio. 😍 We hosted our intimate wedding ceremony and reception in the Green Solarium at the Denver Botanic Gardens - and the trio sounded absolutely amazing. Plus Christen was super easy to work with! She was super responsive and flexible when it came to planning our ceremony and reception songs. Her trio learned a new song for our processional, plus they hit the cues perfectly. I wanted our recessional song to start when we had our first kiss - and the totally nailed my magical movie kiss moment! Plus, Christen created the playlist for our cocktail hour and reception, based on our music tastes, so I didn't have to spend a long time figuring that out. I would totally recommend going with LIVE MUSIC for your wedding - and I completely recommend Christen and her crew. :)”

I loved working with this bride, and was excited to help her bring her wedding day vision together with our music. One piece of her vision was a special request for her wedding party's processional song – "Changes" by Black Sabbath. Although this might seem like an unconventional choice, I embraced the challenge and created a joyful arrangement for our string trio to perform. The bride and I made a few inside jokes about ignoring the lyrics, and I focused on the melody in my arrangement. The result was a surprisingly delightful and memorable processional song, that really captured the attention of everyone in attendance.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and refreshments as we continued to play an upbeat mix of classical, pop, rock, and traditional Irish tunes. Our repertoire even included a few selections from the Star Wars soundtrack, another special request from the bride. I’ll always fondly remember this Halloween day wedding and working with this wonderful couple to make their wedding day dream become a reality.

The sun was shining, and the Woodland Mosaic Garden was blooming with life, making it such a romantic setting for this summer garden wedding. Our uplifting flute and cello music blended with the birdsong, filling the solarium and gardens with joy. We played for both the wedding ceremony and cocktail reception, adding a sophisticated feel to the entire day.

As soon as the first guests started to arrive, we began to play classical music for the prelude. We were sure to include plenty of Vivaldi and Beatles songs at the couple's request, a special treat for the British groom.

Though this couple met later in life, their story was as modern as it gets. They met online during the pandemic, and their love for each other was undeniable. It was hard not to cry during their incredibly sweet vows, as they sealed their union. To add to the sweetness of the day, our hearts were warmed by so many compliments from the guests and bride and groom. We felt so grateful to have been a part of this beautiful garden wedding.

A Star Wars Inspired Wedding Ceremony and Reception at The Denver Botanic Gardens: Flute, Viola, Cello Trio

The Denver Botanic Gardens are my favorite wedding location because I love gardening and the natural beauty of plants and flowers! This weekend, our flute and strings trio (flute, viola, cello), had the privilege of playing at the Tropical Conservatory for this couple’s wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and full dinner reception.

It was a blazing hot day, and it was even hotter inside the conservatory - probably well over 100 degrees. Thankfully, after the wedding, a few clouds moved and it cooled off a little. As the guests arrived, we welcomed them with Disney music and pop tunes. Then, for the cocktail hour, we switched to elegant classical music. Then, while the guests ate dinner, we played a mix of classical and contemporary music.

The couple particularly loved Star Wars music, and I made several new Star Wars arrangements for them. They also loved Disney, jazz, and well, pretty much everything! They were fun to work with and I loved their music selections. For their first dance, we played “Across the Stars” from Clone Wars, and then for the dance with the parents, we played “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. When we saw the guests lining up with light sabers for the send-off, we knew that we had to play another Star Wars song, so we played “Darth Vaders Theme (The Imperial March)”.

From the Mother of the Bride:

The perfect garden wedding music!
Thanks so much to Christen and her trio for their wonderful performance at my daughter's wedding at the Denver Botanic Gardens in August. We couldn't be happier. They learned the music we requested (so much Star Wars!) as well as pop and big band hits. We received so many compliments from guests and the other vendors. It was the perfect musical accompaniment to the garden wedding and reception. We couldn't have asked for more.”

The bride chose a lovely set list of classical and traditional contemporary music to create a relaxed and romantic feel for her wedding day. I played music as the guests arrived and mingled, for the processional and recessional, and then for a little while afterwards as the guests enjoyed champagne.

Afterwards, the bride told me that everyone loved my music, and that it was the perfect touch for her wedding day. Her kind comments made my day!

I love soloing on my flute and I also love gardening, so playing my flute for this wedding ceremony at the Denver Botanic Gardens was a wonderful day for me! The temperature reached 100 degrees, tying a record high for that June day in Denver, but we stayed cool under the shade of the gazebo.

Flute, Cello, and Guitar Wedding Music at the Denver Botanic Gardens

Flute, Cello, Guitar Wedding Ceremony Music at the Denver Botanic Gardens in Denver, Colorado

After many unusually cold and rainy April days, this Nebraska couple got lucky with the perfect spring day for their wedding celebration. They were married at the peaceful Woodland Mosaic Garden, one of several wedding sites at the Denver Botanic Gardens. This secluded woodland location has a charming Victorian solarium, making it my favorite wedding site in the gardens. The spring flowers and delicate new leaves sparkled with life, and the sun was warm and inviting.

The bride is an accordion player, and she was quite knowledgeable in music and made a variety of music selections from classical to traditional Irish, jazz, Beatles, and other contemporary songs. Both the classical and modern songs sounded perfect with our flute, cello, and guitar trio.

We played traditional classical music to greet guests as they arrived and mingled before the ceremony. This couple chose to officiate their own ceremony, and Colorado is one of only a few states where this is easy to do and recognized legally. I played short musical excerpts throughout the ceremony to set the mood and to provide lovely transitions.

After the ceremony, we switched from classical music to pop, rock, and jazz music. Everyone enjoyed our music along with cocktails and mingling. As we played, the solarium was set with tables and chairs for the dinner that would be soon to follow. We wrapped up the cocktail portion of the event with the couple’s first dance, which we accompanied with “Fantasy” by Earth, Wind, and Fire. Our guitarist switched from his classical guitar to his steel string guitar, and we really rocked it!

On a late summer day, my flute and cello duo played for an elegant formal wedding ceremony at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The garden beds were spilling over with glorious autumn flowers, red berries, and ripening golden grasses. The ceremony took place in the Romantic Gardens, which were a lush, green oasis despite the hot and sunny 90 degree day.

Our duo played elegant and fun classical music to greet guests as they arrived. The little gazebo that we played under had the perfect acoustics for our instruments, and our music floated throughout the gardens, mingling with the flower-scented air.

Fun Tip: For a hot outdoor summer wedding, invite your guests to wear fancy hats to stay cool. I loved the hats that the ladies wore at this wedding ceremony! Just check out these sweet accessories.

“They completed my vision for a classy, romantic, elegant wedding”

From the Bride:
Christen performed for our intimate wedding ceremony at the Denver Botanic Gardens on 9/15/18. She was an absolute pleasure to work with, from start to finish!! Christen was professional, responsive, and able to answer any questions that I had (which for a Type A person like me was quite a few). Since I live out of town, all of our communications were via email and phone. I would usually hear back within a day with any questions I had, and the fact that we never met until day-of didn't detract from the planning, organization or execution of the music. She worked with my budget, and because of her affordable prices, I was able to get a flute and cello combo which I had not previously thought a possibility. Their performance the day-of was perfect, and I could not have asked for better musicians for our big day! They completed my vision for a classy, romantic, elegant wedding. Highly recommended!!! Thanks Christen!”

Late in June, I had the privilege of playing for a wedding ceremony and cocktail hour at the Denver Botanic Gardens. It was my first time playing in the elegant Woodland Mosaic Garden, which is my favorite garden wedding site. The sun went behind clouds, and what started as a baking hot day turned into a cool day with a gentle breeze. The leafy canopy of trees arched over the conservatory and the sound of singing birds mingled Snow White style with our Disney themed music.

At the bride's request, and to my great delight, we played a lot of Disney pieces, and I even got to make a special arrangement of "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Cinderella to play as the wedding party walked down the aisle.

The ceremony and cocktail hour came off beautifully, and as cocktails were ending, a big gust of wind brought in a smattering of rain, and the guests moved to the reception location to enjoy a tropical inspired feast.

Tis the Last Rose of Summer, A Whole New World, Gavotte (J.S. Bach), Menuet (Bach), When You Wish Upon a Star, Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis)

In July, our flute and violin duo played for an intimate wedding ceremony at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The ceremony took place in the Romantic Gardens, which are green and serene, spilling over with roses and transporting one back to the Victorian Era. Our flute and violin duo played under one of the two small gazebos, and it beautifully amplified our sound and also protected our instruments from the sun and rain. Often it was sunny and raining at the same time and the ceremony began with an unusually heavy gust of wind. Despite the erratic weather and a few hitches before the ceremony began, this flexible couple carried on. The weather calmed down and the sun shone brilliantly for a beautiful finish to this wedding ceremony. Our duo played a selection of classical and more contemporary tunes to keep the guests entertained before the wedding and the bride selected her own processional and recessional songs.

Sample Prelude Music:
Aire from Orpheus (Gluck), Allegro Non Troppo (Popp), Andante from String Quartet in A minor (Schubert), Air from Handel's Water Music, Artist's Life (Strauss), Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis), Let Me Call You Sweetheart (Bing Crosby)

I recently enjoyed playing solo flute for the wedding ceremony of a delightful couple in Denver, Colorado. The bride was from Turkmeninstan, the groom was from England and their former college teacher from California officiated the wedding ceremony. Of all the places in the world to get married, this couple chose the beautiful Denver Botanic Gardens in Denver, Colorado. They were married under the Water Garden Gazebo by the peaceful Monet Pool, which reflected the beautiful flowers and puffy clouds. The weather was beautiful with just enough clouds in the sky to keep the temperature very comfortable. The ceremony was small with just close family and friends and everyone was so warm and friendly that I felt quite welcome.

From the bride:
"Christen was absolutely amazing! We had our wedding ceremony at Denver Botanic Gardens on June 7, 2016 and couldn't have wished for the greater experience with Christen. We were absolutely impressed with her music, she made our special day magical! The guests loved Christen's playing. I recommend her to anyone who wants beautiful music for their ceremony/wedding, you will be amazed!!!"

This wedding ceremony at the Denver Botanic Garden was held on a gorgeous day in mid-October. The ceremony was held at the Romantic Gardens, and they were washed in warm sunshine, the birds were singing, and the gardens were alive with autumn blooms. Even the guests from Hawaii kept talking about how beautiful it was. It was quite a change from last year when we were buried in snow at the same time of year! The bride hired our flute and violin duo and her one request was that we play "All of Me" by John Legend so I made an arrangement of the song for flute and violin. There were only about 14 guests, and while they took pictures and mingled before the wedding ceremony, we played a mix of classical and popular music. Because of the small size, this ceremony felt very relaxed and I think that the bride and groom truly enjoyed their special day as they mingled with family members and listened to our music.

Prelude Music:
Air from Orpheus (Gluck), Romanza from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart), Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis), Allegro Non Troppo (Pop), Simple Gifts, What a Wonderful World, Vivement from The Italian Sonata (Chedeville), Largo from Xerxes (Handel)

The weather was warm and sunny for this elegant late summer wedding ceremony at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The ceremony tent was surrounded by beautiful flowers in peak bloom with a water feature as a backdrop. The wedding itself was a time of celebration and the guests were enthusiastic about cheering for the bride and groom during the processional and recessional. It was quite a processional with 11 bridesmaids and 11 groomsmen, a ringbearer and 2 flower girls! The bride chose all of her own processional music and I chose the prelude and cocktail hour music. I also made a special arrangement of "Can't Help Falling in Love" to play during the reflection time during the ceremony and another arrangement of "A Thousand Years" to play as the bride walked down the aisle.

Our duo continued to play upbeat classical music after the ceremony as the guests enjoyed light snacks and drinks.

Air from Water Music (Handel), Air from Orpheus (Gluck), Menuet from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart), Minuet (Devienne)

Wedding Ceremony Music:
