A Charming Catholic Wedding Ceremony at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Colorado: Solo Flute by Christen Stephens

Solo Flute Wedding Ceremony Music at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Colorado, Photo by Jill Houser Photography

It was such a joy to play solo flute for this traditional Catholic wedding at Saint Mary’s Catholic in Breckenridge, Colorado! Last time I played at this church, I connected with one of the cantors and did some additional music projects for her, writing instrumental parts to a few songs that she wrote. So, when this bride needed a cantor, Katie was the first person that came to my mind! The bride hired her right away, and I loved working with her again on the music for this wedding.

From the Bride:

Christen is a talented musician AND extremely organized and responsive!

“Christen was a dream to work with. She was truly one of the most responsive and organized vendors we worked with for our wedding day. She helped us put together a beautiful musical line-up and even learned a few new pieces for our Catholic ceremony to accompany our cantor. She was extremely helpful through every step of the process: from an initial consultation to answer our multiple questions to providing song lists and recommendations for each key component of the ceremony to making herself available to arrive early for set-up to even preparing an outline of the musical run of show.

And I haven't even mentioned her beautiful music yet! She's such a talented musician - playing both the flute then surprising us by jumping on the piano when she realized a particular song would sound better with that instrument. If that's not a gold standard of service, I don't know what is! If you're looking for a beautiful music backdrop for your big day and someone who thinks through every little detail to ensure the event goes off without a hitch, look no further than Christen!” - Julie O., Bride

On my way up to the wedding, my car broke down! This is my worst fear for traveling in the mountains because there’s no alternative transportation in the mountains, if anything happen. Thankfully, I had left really early, as usual, and I was able to get a ride up, and I arrived in time for my rehearsal with Katie before the ceremony!

Our rehearsal went well, except that Katie was really used to singing the Schubert Ave Maria with a piano accompaniment rather than flute. I pulled up a piano version of the song on my iPad, and I played piano, and it worked perfectly! I had never played piano for a wedding before, and I was quite out of practice, so I got really nervous! In the end, it worked out beautifully, and and bride was so surprised to hear piano music come out of nowhere. Her surprise made all of my nerves worth it in the end!

The prelude music was approved Catholic music that I played on solo flute as the guests arrived. The elegant Baroque music and hymns filled the space as guests arrived and greeted each other. During the ceremony, I accompanied Katie on several pieces, and after the recessional, I played selections from Handel’s Water Music to send everyone their way.

The bride had a second more casual wedding at Ten Mile Station in Breckenridge, and though I wasn’t a part of that one, I enjoyed seeing the beautiful photos afterwards!

On a cool and windy spring day, our string quartet played for a romantic wedding ceremony at the Manor House in Littleton, Colorado. The Manor House is a historic mansion, and it’s such a charming and elegant setting for a wedding!

The ceremony was originally supposed to take place outside, but it was moved indoors because of the high winds and cool temperatures that day. The indoor ceremony space carried our music beautifully, as it was naturally amplified by the warm wood floors and soaring ceiling. As guests arrived, we played a mix of contemporary music and Christian music that the bride selected.

For the processionals, the bride requested music from Father of the Bride, which is one of her favorite movies. We made special arrangements of the theme song and of “Snow Scene” to play for the wedding party and bridal processional, respectively.

From the Mother of the Bride:

“It was such a pleasure working with Christen on the music for our daughter's wedding. She is so professional. My husband and I live in Arizona and the wedding was in Colorado. Christen was happy to accommodate us by hosting multiple Zoom appointments so that we could all be together to plan the music. She took the time to listen to our ideas and even arranged two beautiful songs for us from The Father of the Bride movie.

When it came to the wedding day, Christen and the other musicians played beautifully and truly helped to make the ceremony special.” – Cindy A.

During the ceremony, we had the privilege of hearing the couple recount their love story, and it was definitely like a fairy tale. The bride had been among the last of her friends to be married, and she was over the moon with her guy, and that her special day had finally arrived. Her touching story truly made it feel like the climax in a hearwarming movie.

After the ceremony concluded, we played a few upbeat rock and jazz songs as the guests made their way out to take photos and enjoy the remainder of the festivities.

An Intimate Jewish Wedding Ceremony at the Oxford Hotel in Denver, Colorado - Flute and Guitar Duo

Flute and Guitar Wedding Ceremony Music at the Oxford Hotel in Denver, Colorado, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens

In early April, our flute and guitar duo played for a small Jewish wedding ceremony at the Oxford Hotel in downtown Denver. The day had dangerously high winds, and I found out later that it was blowing over 100mph at my house while I was gone! Despite the possibility of the power being shut off for safety reasons, the wedding went off beautifully, and the power remained on for us in Denver.

Prior to the ceremony, our duo played elegant classical music as the guests enjoyed a pre-ceremony cocktail hour. After the cocktail hour, we moved to the Oxford Theatre for the ceremony. We sat up in the mezzanine, and our sound carried throughout the space. We played a short classical prelude as guests took their seats, and then the couple joined us up in the mezzanine, preparing for their walk down the aisle.

When it was time for the ceremony to begin, we wrapped up the prelude music and I turned around to ask the couple if they were ready to walk down the stairs and to start the ceremony. They were nervous but ready, so we played their song, and they perfectly processed down the stairs and then circled around the other 3 times and then once together before facing each other at the front.

From the Groom:

“Christen and Jeff (guitar) were amazing. Their talent was obvious and their choice of music superb. They were professional, talented and wonderful to work with. You couldn’t find a better flute/guitar combo if you tried.”

Then, the ceremony was off with the wonderful Rabbi Birdie Becker presiding. I got to meet Rabbi Becker later, and being a fellow musician herself, she was delightful to chat with about all things musical.

My drive home was hazardous with the strong winds, and I had to dodge blowing rocks, a low swinging traffic light, a large metal gate swinging across the road, a tree that fell across the road, and numerous other random flying objects. It all ended well and safely, and I now fondly remember this wonderful couple and their joyful wedding day much more than the wind!

Cozy Winter Wedding Music at the University Club in Denver: String Trio

String Trio Wedding Ceremony Music at the University Club in Denver, Colorado, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens, Photo by Christen Stephens

On a late winter day amidst snow flurries, our string trio played for a delightful wedding ceremony at the University Club in Denver, Colorado. The elegant and historical club building was a warm setting for the chilly weather. As the guests enjoyed the cheerful fire and pre-ceremony cocktails, our trio played elegant music from the Baroque period.

Then, the guests moved to the ballroom for the ceremony. We switched to contemporary processional music, and the Imperial March from Star Wars was the biggest hit as the 21 year old flower dude strutted his stuff down the aisle. The guests were laughing so hard that they had a hard time stopping, and there were continued laughs throughout the ceremony when the lighthearted bride and groom were quite candid with each other during their vows.

The fun ceremony segued into the post-ceremony cocktail hour, and our trio moved to the bar room, where we played a set list of contemporary music, including favorites by Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and Beyonce. Many of the guests recognized the songs, and bounced along to the music as they enjoyed drinks and appetizers.

From the Bride:

“We booked the string trio for our ceremony and cocktail hours. Christen is very professional and very involved in every step of planning to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. She was very easy to work with and had everything ready to go upon their prompt arrival at the venue to closing out. Live musicians made all the difference in our atmosphere for the wedding and would highly recommend them for any event.” - Taylor C.

Flute and Harp Music for a Classic Wedding Celebration at the Vue in Dillon, Colorado

On a snowy day in early March, I played flute along with my harpist for a classic wedding ceremony and cocktail hour in Dillon, Colorado. Snow was the backdrop for every significant moment in this couple’s love story, and the huge snowstorm earlier that day unexpectedly continued the tradition. The ceremony and reception were held at the Vue, which is an enclosed rooftop restaurant at the Dillon Hilton.

2024 has been all about pre-ceremony cocktails, followed by additional post ceremony cocktails. This helps guests to relax before the ceremony, and makes the event less formal and more like a relaxed celebration. Having the guests seated at the reception tables during the ceremony also added to the casual feel.

The bride chose every one of her prelude and postlude songs, and added a few new favorites. For pre-ceremony cocktails, we played a mix of classical and laid back contemporary music. For her processional, she chose Fairy Fountain from the Legend of Zelda and the traditional Canon in D by Pachelbel for her walk down the aisle. The two pieces flowed really nicely together.

The recessional music was a new song that we learned - “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli. We started at a specific place in the middle, as requested by the bride, and then we looped back to the beginning so that everyone could hear the entire piece.

For the post-ceremony cocktail hour, we played a mix of classic jazz and nostalgic contemporary music that the bride chose. The bride requested three new songs for the cocktail portion of the event, and they were “Blackbird” by the Beatles, “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga, and “Lovely” by Billie Eilish and Khalid). These pieces, along with her other selections, added a nostalgic and jazzy feel to the reception.

A Formal Wedding Ceremony at the Vail Interfaith Chapel: Flute and Violin Duo

Flute and Violin Duo Music at the Vail Interfaith Chapel in Vail. Colorado, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens, Photo by April O’Hare Photography

On a crisp November day in the picturesque town of Vail, Colorado, our flute and violin duo played music for an elegant and formal church wedding ceremony. Our music carried beautifully in the church as we played a mix of soothing classical and modern music as guests arrived. The bride requested the nostalgic “Love Me Tender” by Elvis, and I wrote an arrangement specially for our duo to play during the prelude.

Following the ceremony, once the guests left and family photos were complete, the newlyweds we’re excited to take a photo with us! My violinist had to go home to care for her newborn, but I was happy to oblige, helping the couple to celebrate every memory from their special day.

A Holy Catholic Wedding Ceremony at Saint Catherine's Chapel on the Rocks

Violin and Cello Wedding Ceremony Music at St. Catherine’s Chapel on the ROcks in Estes Park, Colorado, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens, Photo by Christen Stephens

My violinist and I loved playing music for this early November Catholic wedding ceremony in Estes Park, Colorado. It was a nostalgic day for my violinist, who had been married at the same chapel 7 years before. We were both glad that there are now has bathrooms built at the nearby Visitor’s Center!

The ceremony was formal, and we greeted guests as they arrived with approved classical and sacred music on violin and cello. Once everyone was seated, a hush fell over the congregation, and you could hear a pin drop between our musical pieces. It was so quiet as we played the prelude music, that I felt nervous that the guests would hear my feet shuffle or my chair creak from the choir loft above.

Our music gave the prelude to the ceremony such a worshipful and beautiful feel, and it carried beautifully within the chapel’s stone interior. After the ceremony, we continued to play as guests mingled and left the chapel. I found a moment to talk to the bride afterwards, and she said that she wanted to just sit and listen to our music all day long. Her kind words warmed my heart!

In early autumn, our string quartet played for a peaceful and traditional wedding ceremony at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Colorado. It was a full Catholic Mass, and our music perfectly complimented the sacred feel of the service.

As befitting the serene church setting, our string quartet played hymns, sacred classical music, and selections from Handel’s Water Music as guests arrived. Anticipation for the ceremony peaked as two cantors (singers) and the pianist performed The Summons to signal tat the ceremony was about to begin.

Throughout the ceremony, the cantors and pianist performed the liturgical music in beautiful harmony. Our quartet joined them for the communion song, which was “One Bread, One Body”, and also for “Kyrie, Gloria”. When all seven of us performed, it sounded a little like heaven, as our music carried throughout the church.

Confronted with limited space within the church, I created a novel approach to cello bowing, adapting my technique to accommodate the flow of people. As congregants made their way back to their pews after receiving communion, I greeted them with a warm smile to let them know that they could come by. Then I did an upward bow motion to let them them to glide by without interruption.

After the ceremony, we all drove to Ski Tip Lodge in Keystone to play music for the cocktail hour. Here, we changed the mood completely, and played pop and country music as guests mingled on the lawn and enjoyed cocktails and refreshments. They particularly requested Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and the Beatles. Even though it was late September in the Colorado mountains, the day was beautiful and sunny with a brilliant blue sky.

On a beautiful summer day, our flute, violin, viola, and cello quartet played for an elegant and modern wedding ceremony at the Black Canyon Inn in Estes Park, Colorado. The ceremony was held in the newer event space called The Boulders at Black Canyon Inn. This is a gorgeous building with a wall that opens up completely to showcase stunning mountain views from the comfort of the indoors. As musicians, we love the lively acoustics in the room.

As guests arrived, our quartet joyfully welcomed them, beginning with traditional classical music, and easing into romantic and slow contemporary music as the ceremony time drew closer.

In the middle of the ceremony, the couple performed a time capsule unity ceremony, and they took their time as we played “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. This song selection delighted many of their family members, who told us later that they recognized the song and loved the sweet moment.

A Joyful Wedding Ceremony at the Chapel at Beaver Creek: Flute, Viola, Cello Trio

On a vibrant day in late May, I had my first mountain wedding for 2023. My drive up to the mountains was a mix of sunshine, rain, and even some snow over the continental divide. The ceremony took place in Beaver Creek, Colorado, and the town was brimming with energy because it was hosting a lively Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival for Memorial Day Weekend.

Just on the outskirts of the festival's buzz, the Chapel at Beaver Creek offered a secluded haven. The quaint chapel, cozily situated amidst a forest of spring trees was a nostalgic and peaceful setting. A cool mountain breeze and sounds of the rushing river water whispered throughout the chapel through the open windows.

The preparation leading to the ceremony was spent in collaboration with the mother of the bride. She requested traditional classical music for the prelude, and she specifically wanted to hear the Hornpipe Finale from Handel’s Water Music. I chose a mix of upbeat and slow classical pieces, befitting the solemn, yet joyous, ceremony.

As the ceremony concluded, we played the lively Rigaudon from Handel’s Water Music to send the couple joyously on their way.

A Calming Sacred Wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch in Larkspur, Colorado: String Trio + Piano

String Trio + Piano Wedding Ceremony Music at Spruce Mountain Ranch in Larkspur, Colorado, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens, Photo by Katie Corinne

On a brisk May day, I found myself traveling to the idyllic Spruce Mountain Ranch in Larkspur, Colorado. My string trio and pianist were gathered to play music for a traditional Christian wedding ceremony. The setting was in a beautiful indoor space with gorgeous acoustics for our music, and pastoral views of rolling hills outside the large roll-up door.

In the weeks leading up to this special day, I enjoyed working closely with the groom on the music selections. One of his requests was that I arrange a number of hymns to accompany the ceremony, specifically during the congregation's singing and the communion. He also expressed a desire to enhance our traditional string trio with the inclusion of piano, providing a traditional accompaniment for the singing. The piano combined with our strings gave a full orchestral sound that perfectly complimented the congregational singing and prelude music.

The bride also had a special request that lent a unique touch to their wedding. She had chosen a processional song – the meditative 'Spiegel im Spiegel'. This song is traditionally played with a violin and piano, but it can also be played with other instruments. In this case, the couple requested the song be performed with my cello, accompanied by piano. Unlike a traditional processional, the bride wanted the serene melody of 'Spiegel im Spiegel' to play throughout the entire wedding party's entrance, culminating in her entrance at a precise moment 6:50 into the song. Thanks to a metronome, meticulous planning, and the skilled coordination of the wedding planner and DJ, the timing was executed almost flawlessly. The tranquility invoked by the music left the guests in a state of peace and calm, and when the processional was over, you could hear a pin drop.

The entire service was tied together with music and filled with spiritual readings, hymn singing, and the sacred rite of communion. I loved playing my cello along with my team on the day of the wedding, and it was so satisfying to see this couple’s wedding day vision come to life!

String Quartet Nature-Inspired Wedding Ceremony Music at Moss Denver

String Quartet Wedding Ceremony Music at the Moss, Denver, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens, Photo by Sunnie Heers

Warm spring sunshine and blooming flowers set the stage for this elegant nature-inspired wedding celebration at Moss Denver. Our string quartet was delighted to return to this charming venue, because of its hip atmosphere and exceptional acoustics.

I worked closely with the groom during the entire music planning process, and he told me that he wanted everything to be absolutely perfect for his beautiful bride on their wedding day. The couple's vision was romantic with a hint of disco flair, and it came together seamlessly under the expert guidance of Natalie, the wedding planner. I listened carefully to their music requests so that that their special day would be exactly as they envisioned it.

The couple's musical preferences gravitated towards pop music with a classical feel, reminiscent of the soundtrack from the popular series Bridgerton. They carefully curated their prelude set list to reflect their unique taste and provided a list of additional favorite songs that were not in our repertoire. They trusted my judgement on which of these songs would sound the best with a string quartet. Although some of these selections weren't suitable, Rihanna's "Diamonds" caught my attention, and it meshed perfectly with the industrial chic atmosphere and the sound of our strings.

Throughout the ceremony, the bride playfully laughed and exchanged endearing glances with her groom. As the ceremony concluded, our quartet accompanied the recessional with a lively, upbeat melody that perfectly captured the mood of the celebration. The festivities continued outdoors as guests gathered for a memorable group photo, capturing the magic of their unforgettable spring wedding.

A Memorable Winter Wedding at the Oaks at Plum Creek in Castle Rock, Colorado

On a crisp, sunny winter day, I enjoyed playing my cello along with my string trio for a beautiful Christian wedding ceremony. Despite the chill, the sun lent a warmth to the day that set the scene for this charming winter wedding at The Oaks at Plum Creek.

Located in a cozy suburban corner, The Oaks offers an impressive indoor space with a sweeping view of the golf course and city, and our musical performance elevated the space and gave the day a celebratory feel.

As guests began to arrive, we played a prelude of both classical and contemporary pieces. The positive feedback we received from the arriving guests made us feel good that our performance was being well-received and enjoyed.

For the communion the bride selected the hymn "Be Thou My Vision". It was such a lovely pause in the ceremony, a sacred moment shared between the bride and the groom,

After the formal ceremony concluded, our lively music accompanied the guests as they transitioned from the ceremony to the reception.

Winter weddings are less common than celebrations in the spring and summer months, but they lend a unique charm and and beauty that’s just as enchanting. My trio and I were thrilled to be a part of this couple’s special day!

A Hip and Urban Wedding on the Dairy Block in Denver, Colorado: Flute and Cello

Flute and Cello Wedding Ceremony at Deviation Distilling in the Denver, Colorado Dairy Block, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens

Our flute and cello duo provided such fitting musical accompaniment for this urban wedding at the Denver Dairy Block! The wedding took place at Deviation Distilling, and our classical and jazz music was a smooth and romantic compliment to the chic setting.

Just before we began playing prelude music, an unexpected spectacle went right past the front door! Another couple had just gotten married, and they recessed down the alleyway, led by a chorus line of about a dozen brass players! It was quite the scene and added an extra touch of excitement to the already festive occasion.

For the prelude, we played a set list of elegant classical music to greet guests as they arrived. As the evening progressed, we switched to a more intimate and casual jazz set, fitting in perfectly with the urban vibe of the venue. The music helped to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests, allowing them to relax and enjoy the celebration.

An Irish Wedding Celebration in Estes Park, Colorado: Flute, Viola, Cello Trio

Flute and String Trio Wedding Ceremony Music at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Estes Park, Colorado, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens, Photo by Christen Stephens

I love playing Irish music on my flute, and it’s one of my specialties, so I was so excited when this couple asked me to help celebrate their Irish heritage at their wedding with our music! The family had immigrated from Ireland through Ellis Island, which reminded me of my own grandmother who also immigrated through Ellis Island. What a wonderful and fun family history!

The couple chose our flute and strings trio (flute, viola, cello), to play music for their wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. They loved the full sound of our trio, but that it has a lighter sound than a quartet.

The ceremony took place at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Estes Park, Colorado. It was a charming hilltop church in a majestic mountain setting. Originally, the couple wanted a prelude of Irish music and other non-traditional music to greet their guests as they arrived. Unfortunately, it turned out that this Catholic Church required us to play approved traditional music. I picked out a new set list and had it approved, and I sadly couldn’t incorporate any of the music that the bride originally wanted. But we were able to fit in all of the bride’s song requests later for cocktails!

We played a beautiful and holy prelude, befitting of the setting, and our music filled the church with glorious sounds from our overhead perch in the choir loft. For her communion, the bride chose for us to play “Blest Are They”, and I arranged a lush setting of the song for our trio to perform.

Afterwards, we moved to Della Terra Mountain Chateau to play cocktail hour music. This is where we let loose and had some fun! We played 100% traditional Irish music and Riverdance music. From jigs and reels to slow and haunting airs, we created a lovely vibrant atmosphere with our music as guests mingled for cocktails. To accomplish this, we added 11 new traditional Irish pieces to our repertoire, and I specially arranged 5 new Riverdance songs for our trio. Leading up the wedding, it was not uncommon for my husband to hear me playing “Reel Around the Sun” and other lively Irish tunes over and over again so that I could perfect this difficult music. It was thrilling when it all came together into one celebration!

I loved playing my flute along with my cellist for this intimate and traditional wedding ceremony at Our Lady of Lourds Catholic Church. This charming mountain chapel is nestled in the idyllic town of Georgetown, Colorado, the kind of small town that you read of in novels. As we waited for the church to be unlocked, the curious locals asked who was getting married today as they drove by, and they cheered their congratulations when we responded.

The bride wanted a mountain chique vibe for her wedding, and she asked that we include some traditional Irish selections as well. The church stayed locked until shortly before the ceremony, so we were quick to begin playing prelude music as soon as we could, as the guests were being seated.

From the Bride:

“Christen was absolutely incredible; as a planner, musician, and person. She helped us select the perfect "playlist," plan the logistics of the music so that everything would go seamlessly, and was a pleasure just to talk to, much less hear her play! Her musical ability is unmatched, and her range is amazing. She made everything about the planning so easy, and my only regret is that we didn't have her play longer! I would recommend her and her team to anyone 1000%! Amazing person and musician!”

The processionals were the traditional Canon in D (Pachelbel) for the wedding party and Wagner’s Bridal Chorus for the bride. During the ceremony, I played “Amazing Grace” as a reflection song, and there was such a feel of serenity that filled the chapel! We played the less traditional “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles as the recessional, to send guests off to the cocktail hour.

For cocktails, we all moved to Chief Hosa Lodge in Golden. The bride wanted fun, light, and happy music to celebrate a love-filled day. At the bride’s request, we played upbeat contemporary selections by the Beatles, John Denver, and acoustic style music from the 80’s. We enhanced our music with our amplification and fun beats on our drum machine! People loved the fun music selections!

This Ohio bride didn’t let a late spring snowstorm dampen her spirits for her intimate mountain wedding ceremony! We got a little over a foot of snow, but most of it had melted by the afternoon. However, it was still quite chilly when we had all originally been expecting an outdoor ceremony in warm spring sunshine. Because of this, the wedding was moved indoors to Dannen Chapel, and it brought everyone together in a way that the outdoor wedding wouldn’t have.

The bride wanted to hear happy, simple and relaxing music, and we played a selection of classical and contemporary music that she picked out. She did a great job, because her music selections filled the prelude time exactly.

Flute and Cello Duo at the Chapel at Beaver Creek in Colorado

Flute and Cello Wedding Ceremony Music at the Chapel at Beaver Creek, Colorado, Flute and Strings by Christen Stephens

Celebrate your wedding day with the joyful sounds of the flute, accompanied by the rich beauty of the cello.

I played flute along with my cellist at the charming Chapel at Beaver Creek for a Christmas day wedding ceremony this year. The couple was from Washington state, but they had their first date in Vail, so they wanted to have their wedding ceremony nearby in the beautiful Colorado mountains. The chapel was postcard perfect, and the Christmas decorations doubled as wedding decorations.

Our music added a special touch and celebratory feeling to the picturesque setting. The wedding had only four guests, and the celebration was sweet and intimate. While the bride prepared to walk down the aisle, we played a mix of classical, traditional wedding music, and Beatles songs. We had to leave quickly after the ceremony to make way for a Christmas day service, but the arriving guests greatly expanded our audience for just a few minutes!

String Quartet Wedding Ceremony and Cocktail Hour Music at Highlands Ranch Manor

We loved playing music for this traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, and it was the perfect way to spend a cold December afternoon and evening! Our string quartet played classical and instrumental favorites as the guests arrived, and our music carried beautifully in the big open ceremony space. The bride selected “Married Life” from Up for her recessional, and the couple even playfully danced to the song when they reached the end of the aisle. Of course, after that, I had to watch the movie again! This couple was just as sweet and in love as the couple in the movie, and it was wonderful.

For the cocktail hour, the couple requested more classical music with the addition of some Disney and show tunes. I put together a program that flowed seamlessly from one style to the next, and there was even some more impromptu dancing from the guests as we played the show tunes.

Imagine a wedding on a charming mountainside chapel, surrounded by full autumn colors. Then add the joyful music of the flute, accompanied by the full grand piano, and you have the perfect setting for a wedding ceremony! The trip over the mountains on this early October day was filled with scenes of golden autumn foliage and snow-capped peaks. It felt like a journey through summer, autumn, and winter. It was sunny and in the 70’s when I left my home, but there was a blizzard as I drove over the continental divide and then again over Vail Pass. Despite the snowy weather and an accident that closed down the entire highway for 45 minutes, we were at the chapel on time and excited to be a part of this bride’s long-awaited wedding ceremony.

Most of my clients are from Texas, and this bride was no exception, traveling to Colorado to enjoy the beauty of the mountains in peak foliage season. She wanted upbeat and joyful music for her wedding ceremony and the mother of the bride wanted a classic feel. Our flute and piano duo was the perfect fit to play a mix of classic contemporary and classical music. We kept the mood light and joyful, and our music was a warm greeting for the guests on this cool and rainy autumn afternoon.
