Holday Market at the Specialty Appliance in Greenwood Village: Solo Flute and Solo Violin

Solo Flute and Solo Violin Music at a Greenwood Village Holiday Party

Solo Flute and Solo Violin Music at a Greenwood Village Holiday Party

This Christmas season, my violinist and I had the pleasure of performing at a lively and one-of-a-kind holiday event hosted by Specialty Appliance in Greenwood Village. The celebration was brimming with festive cheer, featuring exciting prizes, interactive holiday stations, exciting live performances, and an impressive spread of gourmet food and drinks!

Since an appliance store is divided into several small rooms, my violinist and I played separately as soloists, moving from room to room every few minutes. We were the sole musical act, and it was fun to see guests look up in delight when we first started playing in each space.

“Amazing Experience!”

“Christen and Brightin were incredible and professional at our giant party! Super flexible and easy to get along with as well. They sounded amazing and are great musicians. Highly recommend!”– Kelly at Specialty Appliance

We played a lively mix of festive Christmas tunes, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for guests. I also had a few times where guests sang along, which added to the charm.

We loved seeing how so much these wonderfully talented people, along with our live music, could transform this unconventional space into a warm and luxurious holiday setting!

In mid-December, I headed up to Dillon, Colorado to play solo flute for an outdoor wedding ceremony on Sapphire Point Overlook. Sapphire Point has stunning views of the Dillon Reservoir and the surrounding mountains. The mountains and pines were covered with snow, making an incredibly romantic setting for this Texas couple's wedding ceremony. I helped the guests feel warmer by playing a mix of contemporary, jazz, and Christmas music as they arrived and were seated. I think that "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" was particularly inviting to all of us in the steady wind and freezing temperatures.

The ceremony was fairly short and then I continued to play after the ceremony concluded while the wedding party had their photos taken. I can play my flute as long as the temperatures stay above freezing, but the temperatures were below freezing, and soon the inside of my flute was completely covered in a thick layer of ice from the moisture in my breath. I quickly changed flutes to my backup flute but soon that one froze too! Since a few keys froze together, I just avoided the notes that I couldn't play until the end of my booked time. It was quite an adventure!

Our Boulder Symphony flute quartet (flute, violin, viola, cello) recently played for a Santa Photo Shoot at the Boulder History Museum. The day dawned in winter chill but indoors the museum was cozy and beautifully decorated for the holidays. Guests enjoyed drinks, cookies and other refreshments as they enjoyed our musical performance. It was a charming and traditional way to ring in the holiday season and everyone left feeling a little more festive. Now Offering a String Quartet and a String Trio

It's time to go traditional, and I am pleased to announce that you can now hire a string quartet or a string trio right here through my website. String music will add a touch of elegance and class to your wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, or your special event. The formal sound and appearance of stringed instruments make them a very popular choice for brides. If you would like to hire a quartet or a trio but want a more unique and varied sound, you can replace the first violin with the flute. The flute has a smooth sound that contrasts beautifully with that of stringed instruments.

Add Some Sparkle With Live Christmas Music

New Music Samples for Flute and Harp Duo

Recording Session at Swallow Hill in Denver, CO
Recording Session at Swallow Hill in Denver, CO

Thanks to Brian Hunter at the Swallow Hill recording studio in Denver, I have replaced my ten year old homemade flute and harp recordings with new professional ones. On the recordings I am playing on my new solid rose gold and silver Powell flute that I bought last summer. I was accompanied by talented harpist, Mary Keener. Our duo is available to play for your Colorado wedding or event.

The Charlotte Music Club presents “Handel’s Messiah, Part I”

We are once again fast approaching the time of year when the Charlotte Music Club and the Charlotte Civic Orchestra will hold their annual performance of Handel's Messiah, Part I. The Messiah is a must see event for the holiday season, featuring a full orchestra, a chorus of about 65, a harpsichord, and Ginger Wyrick as conductor. It will be performed on Sunday, December 5th at 3:00pm. It will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 501 Tryon Street. Better yet, admission is free. Parking is also free and located in the Odell Parking Garage off of 9th Street. I will be playing with the cello section for this event and am looking forward to a fun time and hoping for a large audience.

Solo Flute Speaks for Itself

Flute
Flute

I recently had a conversation with someone about music, and when I told her I play flute for weddings and events, she asked if I play with other musicians. I told her I do, but she was surprised when I told her that I also perform frequently as a soloist. Contrary to what many people assume, the flute  sounds full and complete on its own, and is a beautiful and popular choice for wedding and event music. Solo flute can stand on its own, and here are the reasons why:

It’s Simple - When you listen to music, you probably focus on the melody, and might even hum along with the song, but you probably don’t pay much attention to the harmony beneath the melody. Solo flute gives you a pure and clean melody, and every nuance and expression in the music is highlighted  in its simplicity.

It’s Unique -  After playing solo flute for weddings, it is common for me to hear people say that they had never heard a flute soloist before and were impressed with its beauty and unique sound. Any time two instruments are played together they blend to create a different sound that is a little like each of the instruments played, but a bit different from both. When the flute is played apart from other instruments,  it provides a unique sound that few people have heard.

It’s Affordable – When hiring musicians, it’s important to consider your budget, and solo flute is very budget friendly. With each extra musician you hire, your rates can double, so if you are on a budget, a soloist is the perfect choice.

It’s Versatile - Short on space? A soloist on the flute doesn’t take up much space, and certainly takes up less space than most other musicians

Have an echo? Some venues, particularly churches, have impressive echoes. Locations like Beaver Creek Chapel and Evans Memorial Chapel in Denver are perfect examples. Larger groups may sound muddled if there is too much of an echo, but solo flute has a full and clear sound, that is quite remarkable in these types of buildings.

Outdoor wedding? Flute is an excellent choice for the outdoors because its sound carries better than that of a string instrument. Also, unlike a guitar or keyboard, the flute does not need to be plugged in.

Too many stairs? A flute player has excellent mobility. We are not limited by stairs, grassy lawns, or mountain locations.

Next time you are planning a wedding or event, consider the clear melodies, unique sound, affordability, and versatility of the solo flute.
