Christen Stephens has over twenty years of experience as a professional wedding ceremony and event musician. She plays the flute, piano, and cello and the flute is her specialty. Inspired by her love for playing chamber music, she has created a number of ensembles featuring the music of the flute and strings. These groups regularly perform for weddings and social occasions across Colorado and beyond. She is also the founder and creator of “Inspire Duo”, a flute and piano duo that is completely improvisational.

Christen is known for her musical versatility on the flute. Using her classical training as a foundation, she has since developed an extensive repertoire of jazz, traditional Irish, sacred, and popular music and also enjoys improvising. Her playing has been featured in performances for dignitaries such as the Dalai Lama, Bob Dole, Madeline Albright and former US representative, Sue Myrick. She plays on a handmade solid rose gold and silver Powell flute.

Christen plays flute and cello with the Boulder Symphony Orchestra and leads small group performances for the symphony. Christen has also soloed on flute with orchestras and has done public and private performances across the country. She is very familiar with traditional and modern Christian music and has played flute and piano regularly on church worship teams. Christen also does studio recording work on flute and piano and can be heard on several albums. She is able to write and improvise parts when no written music is available. Christen is also a music arranger and specializes in making contemporary music sound great with classical ensembles. She makes custom music arrangements for her ensembles and takes special requests from her clients.

Christen has past experience in teaching private flute and piano lessons and hosting bi-yearly student recitals for over 20 years. She also has experience teaching group music classes and was the instructor of Vivace Strings, the Union Symphony Youth Chamber Players’ advanced string ensemble. She has also worked for local public and private schools teaching classes in keyboarding, recorder, and flute.

Christen Stephens began taking private music lessons at the age of twelve. She was classically trained on the flute and piano and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with an emphasis in flute at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. There, she served as concertmistress of the UNCC flute choir. Most of her flute study was under Mark Thomas, an international soloist and the founder of the National Flute Association. After she graduated, Christen began pursuing her lifetime love of the cello and began taking cello lessons and later teaching and performing on the cello as well.
