“Christen is a great teacher! She has a good sense of humor and makes me feel at ease.  She motivates me to work hard and makes learning fun.” Jessica, 10

“I have been taking lessons with Christen for over five years. I played flute in elementary school and came back to it as an adult after nearly thirty years simply for the joy of making music and learning new things. Christen is respectful and understanding of my goals. She has met me where I am and is a pleasure to work with. She pushes me where I need to be pushed and works with me on my particular concerns. It has been enjoyable learning to play an instrument as an adult with her patient and humor-filled guidance.” Margaret Divish

Teaching Philosophy and Vision:

I believe that music is a gift from God and to be used for His glory. Because of this, my desire is to instill a love of music in each student and to help each one reach his or her full potential. Each of my students is a unique individual, and I strive to respect and accommodate their interests, abilities, and needs. As my student, you may want to learn music as a part of your homeschooling curriculum, or you may work towards a career in music, or simply play for your personal enjoyment. Whatever you choose, I will help you work towards your personal goals and encourage your involvement in the musical world, whether it be playing in contests, ensembles, at church, or in the community.

“Thank you so much for being a way cool teacher!! I’ve really enjoyed taking lessons from you!” Kelsey

“Christen has been teaching my son flute for almost two years now, and she has been a wonderful teacher. She is professional, responsible, and very accomondating when we need a schedule change. My son loves to learn flute from her and has made a lot of progress during the past two years.” Andy Yang

Recitals and Competitions:

I give my students opportunities to explore music by encouraging them to participate in recitals, ensembles, and competitions. Students will play in recitals through my studio in the spring and winter. They will also have the opportunity to participate in recitals, events and competitions held by the Colorado Flute Association and the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Concepts Students Will Learn:

Flute students will learn technique, scales, musicality, listening skills, and sight-reading skills. They will study music from the Baroque through the Modern eras, and will be give the opportunity to explore musical styles that interest them including classical, jazz, folk, pop, and sacred. They will also learn music theory to help them gain a better understanding of the music they are learning.
