Audition Requirements

Two years or more experience on the flute

Play a solo or excerpt of your choice showing your
abilities and range. Please bring a copy of your solo
for the judges.

Sight read a brief piece.

Major Scales of one or two octaves from the following:

C Concert, F Concert, G Concert, Eb Concert

Audition Preregistration Requirements

Audition preregistration applications are available online at usyo.org. Applications must be postmarked by April 30, 2010.

A $5.00 fee to cover audition processing costs may be mailed with the application or will be collected at auditions. Students not preregistered will require a $15.00 processing fee at the time of auditions.

The 2010–2011 USYO membership fee of $150.00 is non-refundable and will be due upon acceptance. Send payment to the symphony office at P O Box 3044 • 211 N. Main Street Suite C-1 • Monroe, NC 28111. Music will be mailed upon receipt of membership dues. Union Symphony Society, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. An $50.00 investment (tax deductible) is required of USYO members to help offset costs for this program.

Members must commit to the USYO concert season schedule and music camp. Our music camp, all scheduled rehearsals and concerts are mandatory. Good attendance is strongly encouraged for the benefit of all students participating in USYO. If a student has an unavoidable conflict or in the case of illness, an excused absence must be reported in writing to the USYO conductor or managing director. More than three excused absences will result in a review and possible reassignment of the student by the youth orchestra staff.

Rehearsals will take place on select Sunday afternoons from 2–5 PM at Sun Valley High School. Students may arrive at 1:30 PM for warm up. Students must be prepared to begin rehearsal by 2 PM. More than three tardies will result in a review of student commitment. Rehearsals will include sectionals and related activities as well as full orchestra interaction.
Rehearsals will end promptly at 5 PM.

If you in grades 4-12 and play the flute, now is the time to consider if you want to join one of the two Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras. Go here for a brochure and application.

Volunteer to help the Charlotte Piano Teacher’s Forum with the Concerto Auditions or the Solo Auditions and receive lots of volunteer hours for school and the satisfaction of helping the music community.  Let me know if you would like to volunteer or have any questions about what it involves.

Everyone should participate in this exciting and important event to support the  Charlotte Symphony! The Symphony hopes to raise $40,000 to insure the future of their orchestra which is made up of our teachers, mentors and friends.

All students who participate in the Practice Marathon will receive acknowledgement of  their help.  The student who raises the  most money through pledges and  the one who logs the most hours practiced will each receive a prize. My studio will offer additional prizes for the best in among my students, and  I will also acknowledge your accomplishment my website.

1. Between January 9 and 15, collect sponsor names and addresses and put them on the SPONSOR FORM.

2. Between January 16 and 22, practice like crazy! The more you practice, the better you play and the more money we raise for this important cause!

3. Record your practice in half-hour increments and have a parent validate the amount practiced.

4. Immediately, by January 25 if possible, and  no later than February 1, report to sponsors and  pick up their checks, made out  to the Charlotte Symphony.

5. Return checks and  sponsor forms to me.
