Personalized Lessons in Flute, Piano, and Recorder

Welcome to my music studio!

Located in Wesley Chapel, NC, I offer private flute, piano, and recorder lessons for students of all ages and experience levels. I will also be offering cello lessons in fall of 2010! My goal is to make lessons fun, productive, and personalized to my students’ goals. I enroll a limited number of students, so Email me or call me at 704-275-1855 to schedule your lessons.

“Thank you so much for your talent and kindness teaching Taylor. She has really enjoyed her lessons and learned a lot…. We will kindly make referrals to you!” Tonda P.

“I have been taking lessons with Christen for over five years. I played flute in elementary school and came back to it as an adult after nearly thirty years simply for the joy of making music and learning new things. Christen is respectful and understanding of my goals. She has met me where I am and is a pleasure to work with. She pushes me where I need to be pushed and works with me on my particular concerns. It has been enjoyable learning to play an instrument as an adult with her patient and humor-filled guidance.” Margaret Divish

Teaching Philosophy and Vision:

I believe that music is a gift from God and to be used for His glory. Because of this, my desire is to instill a love of music in each student and to help each one reach his or her full potential. Each of my students is a unique individual, and I strive to respect and accommodate their interests, abilities, and needs. Some students learn music as a part of their homeschooling curriculum, or they may work towards a career in music, or simply play for their personal enjoyment. Whatever they choose, I help them work towards their personal goals and encourage their involvement in the musical world, whether it be playing in contests, ensembles, at church, or in the community.

“Thank you so much for being a way cool teacher!! I’ve really enjoyed taking lessons from you!” Kelsey K.

“Christen has been teaching my son flute for almost two years now, and she has been a wonderful teacher. She is professional, responsible, and very accomondating when we need schedule change. My son loves to learn flute from her and has made a lot of progress during the past two years.” Andy Yang

Recitals and Competitions:

Students will have the opportunity to play in recitals and ensembles through the studio, and in various competitions through the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum and the Charlotte Music Club. My studio holds a recital in the spring and winter.

Music Ace Deluxe:

My students enjoy learning on the Music Ace station I have set up just outside my studio. It is available for them to do before or after their lesson with me, and as part of their regular tuition. Music Ace Deluxe is a comprehensive music software that reinforces what they are learning in our lessons. Students will be taken from the “Introduction to the Staff” through the “Introduction to Harmony” in thirty-six lessons.

Concepts Students Will Learn:

Flute and Piano
Flute and piano students will learn technique, scales, musicality, listening skills, and sight-reading skills. They will study music from the Baroque through the Modern eras, and will be give the opportunity to explore musical styles that interest them including classical, jazz, folk, pop, and sacred. They will also learn music theory to help them gain a better understanding of the music they are learning. I also offer chord piano and improvisational flute classes for students who would like to know how to play in modern church bands.

Recorder
Because recorders are easy to play and inexpensive, they are an excellent introduction to music for younger students. Recorder students will learn music reading, theory, and ear training through classical, folk, popular, and familiar songs.
